5 stars (BEST NCLEX REVIEW BOOK) - I would highly recommend this book if you want to pass the NCLEX-RN exam on your first try. Information learned all those years in nursing school is compacted into this book in such a way that won't make you feel overwhelmed. Diseases and treatments are simply put. The questions at the end of each review tests what you've just reviewed and the rationales provided at the end of each section are excellent. This book is the best I've looked at and I am happy to report that I passed on my first try using this book as my primary studying aid. 5 stars (N-Clex Book) - Perfect condition and is a great study guide for the N-Clex. I highly recommend it. 5 stars (I passed my NCLEX !) - The book is great. I used it for just one week before my NCLEX and passed taking only 75 questions. ... 5 stars (great for new nurses and students) - This is a great student and new nurse medication book. 5 stars (Dosage Calculations review) - I've really enjoyed this book so far. Simple directions to refresh my memory on how to do the math/dosage problems. Only up to chapter 5 or thereabouts but very informative to that point. Would recommend it. 5 stars (For the math challenged...) - I bought this book for a math for nurses class. I took the class because even after all the math classes I've taken, math is still a struggle for me and this was a last effort before I start nursing school. THIS BOOK IS WONDERFUL! For the first time ever, "I get it." I feel totally comfortable with calculations now. The book gives you several different methods to solving and you can pick the one that works best for you. It's easy to read and has great examples. 5 stars!!!!! ... 3 stars (GOOD STRATEGY BOOK) - Provided a lot of strategies that helped ease some nerves. This book tells you how to think through questions, eliminate the wrong answers instead of looking for the right one was the most important lesson learned. This book however lacked the number of questions. I used this book and the Saunder's Comprehensive Review book to study for the NCLEX-RN exam and am happy to report that I passed the exam on one try. 5 stars (Excellent) - If you don't pass your boards after reading the first nine or chapters you must be an idiot!!!!! 4 stars (Kaplan NCLEX review) - I really liked the booklet and the strategies that are given but the CD ROM left a little to be desired in my opinion. ... 5 stars (Wonderful book) - This is a great high-yield book in terms of painting the big picture in a quick and condensed format...and if you add stuff in the margins can be even more worthwhile... 5 stars (How to ace the USMLE Step 1: what you REALLY need to know (from a guy who broke 260 without killing himself studying)) - I actually used the 2004 edition of First Aid, but it doesn't change much from year to year. Here is what you need to know about how to ace the USMLE Step 1: 1. First Aid is your bible. Read it, study it, know it. I honestly believe that if you had this book memorized cover to cover and nothing else, you would do very well on the USMLE Step 1. 2. Use Kaplan QBank. I recommend completing most of it (the regular QBank, not the IV QBank, which I didn't use), but you don't have to finish all of it. Keep a list of your errors and review your list periodically (at least twice per week) before you do more questions. 3. The BRS books are useful for fleshing out your review of physio and path. Use them during your courses if possible. 4. "Clinical Microbiology Made Ridiculously Simple" has great pictures to help you remember micro stuff. It's best if you use it during your micro course, then just skim the stuff you highlighted to help you solidify micro before the boards. 5. First Aid is pretty spotty on anatomy (which includes embryology, gross anatomy and neuroanatomy) but there really is very little anatomy on the USMLE Step 1. It's a subject you can get very bogged down in with pretty low yield (as in a whole book on neuro, embryo and gross for a few questions on the actual exam, and will you even remember the details anyway?), and you won't lose many points by just using First Aid for this subject. I actually ended up reading High Yield Gross, High Yield Embryo, and Clinical Neuro Made Ridiculously Simple, and I think it was mostly a waste of time because of how little I retained. Clinical Neuro Made Ridiculously Simple isn't a bad book to have in g... 5 stars (first aid cs) - I paid a reasonable amount for the item and and i received it a few days later in great shape. There was no problem whatsoever. 5 stars (Medical Boards Review) - Great help for the USMLE CS. Has a wide variety of cases with differential diagnosis and work up plan for almost every possible case that will be on the test. Definately worth it! 5 stars (Water in the USMLE Desert) - I recently passed the Step 2 CS using this book and I must say that this was not the only reference source I used. The truth is though that it was the only source worth turning to. I bought the Kaplan book along with the FIRST AID but I soon found myself using only the FIRST AID. . It turns out that the Kaplan people have no idea what it takes to help students pass this test( I have known several people who have taken their week long prep course and failed the Step 2 CS exam)......yet the authors of the First Aid do!!! The First Aid has complete and reliable Patient NOTES for almost every scenario you could find on the test....Kaplan's book does not. The scenarios in this book are perfectly made so that you can practice with a friend or loved one.....Kaplan's book was not organized well for this purpose (if at all). In addition, after doing much research (hint, hint), I came to know I was better off using the First Aid to pass. On exam day, it was the book I saw most often in students hands (More so in the hands of American Medical Students than in the hands of IMG's!!). If you are a smart test taker......then you like to pass, to pass you would want to have the tools that the winners are using. For this reason I recommend the FIRST AID as a reliable source for USMLE Step 2 CS preparation. ... 4 stars (A good FINAL Review of your knowledge) - I found this book benificial for me since it gave me quite good idea on my TOEFL score. It coantains 5 actual tests and 1 extra test that coantain a sealed questtions and ansewr sheet the same way on the paper based test. Excellent for Paper based but only Good for the Computer Based test. Though this prep kit dont give any further explanation on Eng so u should have a good knowledge of english before using this guide, since it only help you know what to expect on the test. 5 stars (Very reflective of the real test) - This book is the best of its kind. The questions are extremely similar to the ones one will see during the actual test. 4 stars (Give a Glimpse of the Actual Test) - Being published by ETS, this book will give you a look of what the actual test looks like. This workbook comes with 5 (five) practice tests, all with reviews and explanations. I use all the practice tests, before I work with the ETS PowerPrep. Combined with PowerPrep, this workbook should give us some predictions of our actual score might end up. Although, this workbook is packed with practice test, it doesn't have thorough explanations on how to attack specific questions. So, you have to buy other books as a companion. I use Barron's as well as Cliffs, to be my companion. ... 1 stars (For GMAT, avoid this dog!) - I bought this product to help me study for the GMAT. I was particularly interested in the PDA flashcards for the GMAT so I could study on the go. There are two major issues with this product for me: 1) They do not explicitly say that the included software is identical to the GMAT 800 software, which I had already bought. Not too big of a deal, since I really just wanted the PDA software, but it would have been nice if this were noted in the product description. 2) Many of the PDA flashcards have serious errors on them. On the flashcards, there is a Question tab, and an Answer tab. For some flashcards, the answer on the answer tab wasn't even one of the options. On other flashcards, the description isn't correct, or leaves out special cases (and is thus wrong). They obviously put this product out too early and/or did not subject it to any quality control, and I have not seen any updates on their website. Actually, I haven't seen ANY updates for anything on their site. If I could do it over, I would have just bought the GMAT 800 book/CD combo instead. The flashcards are virtually worthless. ... 1 stars (Faulty Software) - When my daughter used this product, it did not save the scores on her practice, so she could not progress through the program. This is a major flaw. 3 stars (good review, campy delivery) - I am mid 20's, about to finish a military enlistment and preparing to return to college. This program was very good at refreshing concepts and providing alot of practice tests. However the method of delivery is campy. It feels like it was prepared for a 6th grade audience, cartoon like sound effects, silly music, etc. I would have given this 4 stars if the maturity level of delivery was more in line with the 16-18 year audience it should be aimed at. ... 5 stars (Sleek Tiger) - The finest OS to date. I was haapy with Paanthere, but Tiger is a steop above. 5 stars (From PC to Mac forever, this OS is amazing.) - I have used Windows for years and used a Mac at my work, I always liked the way the Mac handled graphics and also appreciated their ease of use. Mac OS X is so simple to use compared to Windows XP, it is by far the best OS I have ever used. I have not run into one single glitch, my powerbook has not crashed on me once. It had crashed on me a few times with OS 9, but this one seems to be a lot more stable. I like the dashboard also, you can quickly check the weather, stocks, dictionary or calendar all with a push of a button and built into the OS. You can also download many others for free from the Apple website. Itunes is a great application also and it is something I use all day long. Safari is far more superior in just about every-way compared to Microsoft Explorer, in fact it would take to long to list the benefits. I also liked the ability to run OS 9 in classic mode, so you can keep all your older software and still use them within OS X. If you are sick and tired of the Windows fatal exception errors or sending Windows error reports, then buy yourself an Apple and enjoy stress free living with OS X. 1 stars (Stick with Panther) - I get the spinning beachball and Microsoft Office application crashes about as often as I did in 10.1! I reformatted my hard disk and reinstalled Panther after trying the 10.4.1 and 10.4.2 updates. For my needs Panther (10.3.8+) is a much more robust and stable operating system. ... 3 stars (SuSe and Digital Video Editing) - I'll be happy to be proven wrong by 10.0, but one area where 9.3 was very weak was Digital Video (DV) editing. There are and abundance of robust and stable commercial packages available for Windows for around $100. My favorite is Pure Motion's Edit Studio. The Suse trial version of MainActor crashed frequently and I could not get Broadcast 2000 to run at all other than in DV capture mode. Kino worked, but is low on features and not intuitive. Cinelerra looks powerful, but its specs demand high-powered hardware, and it scared me off. I understand that there are licensing issues with DRM, codecs etc, but DV has now become a mainstream activity on home PCs. I could easily migrate to Suse Linux, but I have to keep a Windows box around to edit DV and create DVDs. For out-of-the-box DV editing, Win boxes are way ahead on points - don't even consider Linux if you do DV exclusively. On the other hand, the KB III burning software distributed with Suse works flawlessly, and I was able to get freeware MPEG-II conversions running. The quality of the encodings when viewed with Xine was amazing. One very interesting DV tool in Linux is the Blender 3D graphics program, which includes many video post-processing features, and allows you to add special effects, graphical overlays, and animated titles. [However, Blender also runs fine on Win PCs.] If you don't mind hunting down and installing packages to mess around with, it is worth considering Linux for post-processing. Firewire support worked flawlessly up to a point, but I had to find packages to support DV capture from my Sony camcorder. I also had problems getting Suse to recognize and mount a large-capacity LaCie firewire drive, partitioned into NTFS and Fat-32 partitions. One other issue is file formats. I work with commercial vector graphics packages such as Adobe Illustrator and would like to see more robust import features on the Open Source side. I realize that Ado... 4 stars (A useful and fun programme) - After studying Russian, by myself, for about six months, I found that although my knowledge of the grammar and the vocabulary had progressed, my speaking and listening skills remained poor. I decided to buy Rosetta Stone Russian in order to learn how Russian words and sentences sounded. The programme was easy to install and easy to use. Best of all, I really enjoyed using it. The programme begins by showing four pictures and a word. The task is to pick the picture corresponding to the word. It is possible to choose whether the word is spoken or written, or both spoken and written. Gradually as you progress you meet simple phrases and eventually sentences and whole paragraphs. This method works really well as you are continually tested, while the whole learning experience feels more like a game than studying. While the listening and reading elements of the programme work well, I found it was less successful with regard to speaking and writing. The speaking part of the programme involves attempting to imitate a native speaker. The programme compares the sound you make with what the sound should be. I generally found it almost impossible to imitate the Russian speaker in such a way that the programme considered I had done so successfully. I therefore found this aspect of the programme more frustrating than useful. The writing part of the programme unfortunately requires using a very fiddly onscreen keyboard, which makes the whole process very slow and tedious. The key thing anyway with writing Russian is learning how to form the letters by hand and no computer programme can teach you to do this. I would suggest that someone beginning to use this programme should at least already know the Russian alphabet and ideally some of the grammar. Moreover to complete some of the exercises a dictionary is essential. There is no doubt that working through all the exercises is very useful. I found the programme especially good at helping ... 1 stars (very SLOW way of learning japanese) - I don't recommend this software for several reasons: 1) You're learning words by associations frame by brame, picture by picture. Think about this. A baby will spend at least 2 years of immersion before he can speak anything that makes sense. As an adult, how much comprehension will you get from this software by spending 1 hour a day? 2) The set of pictures that you're shown is flawed and unintelligent. In most cases, you can get the right answer by process of elimination. The same set of pictures that you see in this Japanese version is also shown for French and other languages. This software is systematically put together without any specific focus/customization for the Japanese language. 3) The pictures themselves are sometimes unclear. At times you really don't know what the japanese sentence is referring to in the picture. This can get very annoying and frustrating! 4) The software gives you no insight as to how to read kana and kanji, and of course none on japanese grammar. If you want immersion, you'd be much better off watching a Japanese soap opera. This software does have some usefulness when used in conjunction with other learning methods, but for its price, it's really not worth it. 4 stars (Good if you already know some Japanese) - I love this software, because it has helped me understand a lot more Japanese than the tapes from my textbook. The language is very natural, and the fact that you can see pictures and read the sentence being spoken at the same time helps significantly. You can repeat the lessons as many times as you want to help you master the content, without the exercises becoming boring or excessive. I practice almost two hours a day, and after a week I started to notice improvements. Now when I want to say something in Japanese I don't do any translating in my head first, I can feel the Japanese words coming together. However, I already knew some Japanese before I bought ...
