1 stars (Borland is now dead) - I've been a Borland C/C++ programmer since Turbo C 2.0 and for years it's been the best compiler. Not now. I purchased both Borland C++ Builder 6 and Microsoft Visual C++.NET - the Visual C++ box weighed approx 6 times that of Borland's box (and although weight don't make a compiler, it's an indicator of the vendor's features and support). Visual C++ gives you more bang for the buck but I don't like Microsoft's managed .NET direction. Looks like it's time to seek a Linux solution! 1 stars (Sad just plain sad) - I was excited to come back to Borland. I remember that day's under Turbo C++. They truly had a superior product then first of it was fast. If you had to debug with in the class libraries you could step into them and find out where the problem was. What I have found with Borland today that scares me is it's based around Pascal. That is just not smart! It adds additional complexity to debugging. Try to step into it. I also could not understand why CBuilder violates some OOP OOD concepts through public member variables except when absolutely nessecary. I understand why now. This is a dangerous path...take it at your own risk. Pray that you never have to resolve a serious low level soft ware problem with this. It looks like it will have some serious teeth to bite with. I would have give this zero but the option wasn't available. Microsoft truly has a better product than this. And I was truly excited to see what new ideas Borland had come up with when I came back to this tool set. Now I'm doing everything in my power to get this out of here. 2 stars (Half Useful) - This was my first C++ compiler. It was good to learn on, however once you get into advanced features this compiler is not worth the money. Supposedly this version supports partial specialization, however it doesn't work at all (Or maybe just mine doesn't. HUGE problem, for me anyway. It somehow handles std::iterator_traits however. Odd.) There i... Borland International :: C :: Programming Languages :: Computer software (programs) :: :: Borland C++ Builder 6 Personal
5 stars (THE exam guide) - This book is not written in standard exam cram style. It gives you pretty deep information on different Java language aspects with small test on the end. You will need some programming background (may I recomend Thinking in Java by Bruce Eckel) to gain full advantage of this book. I had pretty good experience in VB.NET and C#.NET and this book enabled me to succesfully pass certification by reading it only once. 5 stars (Sun Certified Programmer Review) - All the preparation required to pass the Sun Certified Programmer Exam 310-035(Java 1.4) is contained in the book Java 2 Sun Certified Programmer & Developer for Java 2 by Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates. This book is excellent!!! If you follow the books recommendations, you will be fully prepared for the exam and the types of questions that will be asked. I liked the two-minute drill which summarized the chapter's key points. The self-tests(after each chapter) and the practice exams (on the CD that comes with the book) really get you ready for the types of questions(tricky) you can expect on the exam. There are quite a few similar type books on the market but they do not have either the clarity or focus of this book. It is all you really need to pass the exam. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to get certified! 5 stars (Great study guide for the Programmer Exam) - Clearly written, entertaining, and good sample questions. I passed the 1.4 test on the 1st try with a 90%. ... 5 stars (Finally, some plain English) - I've been a professional musician for 30 years, and now that the opportunity to record at home has become reality, I wanted to bring myself from total ignorance to at least a fundamental knowledge of the subject. I found this book to be the perfect answer to my needs. The authors explain things in plain English, put in enough detail for those who can absorb it, and remind the rest of us, "Don't let the math scare you, just get the idea." 3 stars (Good for beginners) - This is a good overview if you are new to the industry. Lack of detailed information limits its usability if you already have some experience. I would recommend Yamaha's Sound Reinforcement Handbook and Bobby Owsinski's Mixing and Mastering Engineer's handbooks over this for more specific tips. 5 stars (Information at your fingertips) - Modern Recording Techniques was the first of many books I have read in my study of Sound Design. Where this book does get a little complicated and at times the structure throws me off, this book is the best I have found so far. Similar books, such as the Yamaha Sound Reinforcement Handbook, read like instruction booklets that are so confusing that you are not sure if you are reading about a microphone or trying to put together a bookshelf. This book has stayed on my computer desk and by my side for the past year. Definitely worth the money! ... 5 stars (Great book.) - I have been using a canned program to manage my company's web site, but I wasn't always able to do fine tune the pages the way I wished. So I decided to teach myself HTML. Working through this book, I was able to learn step by step how to design pages and manipulate the images and text. The book is very clear and concise and the exercises the author gives at the end of every chapter are extremely useful. 4 stars (Up-To-Date Now - Thank you.) - Having been out of web Development for a couple years, I needed confidence that my basic understanding was up to speed. This book HTML and XHTML in 24 hours, brought me up to date rather quickly. It provided the foundation that I needed both to build some basic web application prototypes, and to be able to begin reading more specialized books on Web Development. Specifically books on CSS. 5 stars (Awesome book!) - Best computer related book that I have ever read. I was somewhat familiar with HTML concepts, but never created my own web page. The lessons are organized well and are so easy to follow! They even go over applets, Active X, and JavaScript. Awesome, awesome book. ... 5 stars (Excellent intro to the business of streaming media) - There are far too few books out on the subject of streaming media, especially ones that are up to date after "the dot bomb" of a couple years back. Dan Rayburn's book is an excellent introduction to the industry for anyone trying to get his or her bearings. The study included in the appendix is also quite helpful and timely. 5 stars (DRSULO) - This is a must read for anyone evaluating whether or not streaming is right for their business regardless of their organizations size. It gives you examples, backed by case studies, what has worked and more importantly what hasn't. Knowing what to avoid while considering your options, in many cases is as important as how to go to market. Understanding that will enable businesses to deploy that much faster and begin taking advantage of this technology, enabling them to begin to monitize on their strategy. I look forward to future publications. DRS 5 stars ( The Business of Streaming and Digital Media ) - This book is the best on the subject. Dan explains and cuts through all of the fancy language that most people in the streaming business try to confuse you about. He covers everything you need to know and start a streaming business. Go to his site www.streamingmedia.com for more streaming info. This book is sight for the blind. ... 4 stars (these reviews are ideal) - in showing the split in America's political seam. Um, I don't imagine there'll be a melding-of-the-minds anytime soon. Both sides are right, of course, and both are wrong. Everyone seems to agree America's going to hell in a hand basket and whose fault is it? Why it's your fault, and it's my fault, and it's that guys fault and well, there's a lotta fault to go around...cause everyone really knows how the world runs, or is supposed to run and if only THEY just listened to ME...cause I know, I really do...I'm well learned and stuff. Hey, don't sweat it, lighten up, a book like this is fun...even if it contributes to the problem. To quote L. Cohen "I'm not left or right, I'm just staying in tonight" Peace and Love 4 stars (Good book) - This is a good read. Some of the people mentioned are not well known, so I cannot comment on their appearance in the book, but I certainly agree with Goldberg on those whose names I do recognize, although not always in the sequence that he places them. Still, Goldberg points out the absurd conduct of a lot of the bad actors in our country. 1 stars (Unfunny neo-con propaganda) - If you're Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh or anyone who would associate with any of them, you'll love this book. Otherwise, this is a failed attempt at Al Franken satire with some of the most forced humor I've ever read in a book of its kind. The section about Al Franken was desperate (not to mention he hid the cuss words behind asterisks - wouldn't want Brent Bozell to read this book and have a stroke), the diatribe about Eminem sounds like something Andy Rooney would write in 15 years when he's even older and MORE out of touch, and although I agree with his assessment of #95, Courtney Love (all he wrote was the word "ho"), he resorts to this writing device too often without bothering to explain why people such as Love are such a threat to America. Not to mention that it sounds about as embarrassing, cringe-...
